Yesterday, I had the opportunity to tour Longview’s historic Monticello Hotel, a local landmark currently under major renovation. As I walked through the hallways and into the dining hall, resplendent with relief ceiling, I imagined men and women from the turn of the last century, enjoying music and conversation while sampling some of the finest food in the region.
Sharon Walker, General Manager for The Monticello, provided me a behind-the-scenes tour of the features that are part of the renovation – be prepared to be amazed. Along with upgrades to all the rooms and suites, there will be an amazing restaurant, a cafe featuring coffees and treats, a lounge, and a souvenir shop. The restoration has unearthed some amazing architectural treasures including the iron-works for an original elevator and original tile flooring – all features that will be preserved as part of the ambiance of the structure.
We’re proud to have The Monticello Hotel as an official sponsor of our NanoCon Mk. IV Science-Fiction Convention. Our guest speakers will be enjoying a two-night stay in the hotel’s luxury suites – providing them the opportunity to walk to the hotel after watching award winning films at the NanoCon International Science-Fiction Film Festival on Friday, March 24th. Upon returning to the room, they can relax with a nice bath, sleep, and return for the full convention activities the next day.
